6. You can leave the other fields blank
3. How can I top up an eSIM?
Only rechargeable eSIMs can be topped up. You can check whether the eSIM is rechargeable or not under the “Additional information” tab before purchase.
After your purchase, you can find the “Top up” option available for rechargeable eSIMs under the “My eSIMs” tab.
1. Log into your Uquid account (ensure you are logged in to the same account used for purchasing the eSIM you wish to top up).
2. Go to your eSIMS page
3. Tap “Top up” on the eSIM you wish to add a new package
4. Select the Top-up package you wish
If there is no “Top-up” button, or the button doesn’t work, this means the eSIM is non-rechargeable, or there has been a network carrier change for the eSIM. In this case, please purchase a new eSIM.
Note: If the top-up does not activate automatically, please follow the steps below:
Restart your phone after topping up the service
Turn airplane mode on and off to recover the connection.
4. When can I install my eSIM?
In order to know when you can install your eSIM, you must be aware of the activation policy.
Most eSIMs will only activate at the destination once they connect to a supported network or any of the supported networks.
On the other hand, there are eSIMs that will activate instantly as soon as they are installed, regardless of the location.
How can I know when my eSIM will activate?
You must check your eSIM’s activation policy.

Before purchase:
Search for the country you wish to buy an eSIM for
Select the eSIM that you like
Check the Additional Information
Tap “Show more” to find the Activation Policy

After purchase:
Go to My eSIMs> Details> Show more> Activation Policy
The activation policy will be either as follows

“The validity period starts when the eSIM connects to any supported network(s)”: This means that you can install the eSIM before traveling without activating it. Once you arrive at the destination you can connect by turning on your eSIM line as long as the setup has been completed as advised on your eSIM installation page.
“The validity period starts at the installation”: This means that your eSIM will activate instantly once installed, and hence, the validity period will start to run although you are not yet at the destination.
5. I’m experiencing the “This code is no longer valid” error?
This error message appears when you are trying to add an eSIM that has been added before, or the QR-code was partially scanned due to poor connection.
In order to confirm whether the eSIM has been installed or not, please proceed as below:
Go to Settings
Go to General
Tap About and scroll down
If the eSIM is installed and turned on you should be able to view the ICCID [NUMBER] + an extra digit as long as the eSIM line is “On” under your Cellular Plans.

Please note that in case the eSIM has been removed and you attempt to reinstall it, it will not be possible!
On the other hand, if you are installing the eSIM for the first time, this error message could be due to a poor connection, VPN enabled, or too many eSIMs installed on the device.
Please follow the steps below to install your eSIM successfully:

Disable any VPN
Ensure that you have a good and stable internet connection
Remove any eSIMs you will no longer use
Check if the software is updated to the latest version
Try to install an eSIM through an installation method different than before
6. What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is an embedded SIM card available on eSIM-capable devices. It provides a smarter and more convenient way to stay connected by allowing you to download data packs directly to your phone.

No more scrambling for SIM cards. No more worrying about losing your original SIM card!

It’s important to keep in mind that eSIMs will only work on eSIM-compatible and network-unlocked devices.

To guarantee that you can use eSIM plans on your device, you can check our list of eSIM-compatible devices, or you can go straight to your device’s settings to verify its eSIM capability.

7. How to check if my iOS device is eSIM compatible and carrier unlocked?

To learn if your iOS device is eSIM compatible and carrier unlocked, you will need to:

  1. Go to Settings> General> About.
  2. Scroll down to view the “Carrier lock” section.
  3. It should say “NO SIM restrictions”, which means that the device is unlocked.
  4. Scroll down to view the “AVAILABLE SIM” (iOS 15 and newer) or “DIGITAL SIM”(older iOS versions) section. It should contain an IMEI under AVAILABLE SIM or DIGITAL SIM, which means that the device is eSIM compatible.

Depending on your device’s capability, if you have more than one SIM on the device, you may need to temporarily disable/remove one of the SIM cards before trying to download the eSIM.

8. How to check if my Android device supports eSIM?

The eSIM capability of a device depends, firstly, if the manufacturer includes a said feature in their devices. This is why we have a list of compatible devices for easy checking.

However, there are cases where, even though the model is listed as eSIM capable, it’s possible that you still can’t add an eSIM plan.

Android is an open-source operating system, meaning any mobile device manufacturer or carrier can customize it. So there could be models released in some regions or countries that don’t have eSIM capability or that the main carrier, where you bought the device, may not have this feature enabled.

Below are some steps we were able to collect to check if your device has eSIM capability. They may or may not apply to your device. Please note that the best way to confirm the eSIM feature is still through your device manufacturer, vendor, or your main carrier.

Samsung devices:

  1. Go to Settings> Connections> SIM card manager> Add Mobile plan
  2. If the “Add Mobile plan” is available, it should mean that your device supports eSIMs.
  3. Remember to contact Samsung support to confirm if the above steps are possible for your device.

Pixel devices:

  1. Go to Settings >> Network & Internet.
  2. Tap the ‘+’ sign across SIMs.
  3. If the Connect to Mobile network page has a “Download a SIM instead?” option, this means that your device is eSIM capable.
  4. Remember to contact Google Pixel support or your vendor or main carrier to confirm if the above steps are possible for your device.

Other Android devices:

  1. Dial *#06# and press call.
  2. In case your device is eSIM capable, you should be able to view your device’s eSIM unique identification number (EID).

Remember to check with your device manufacturer, vendor, or primary carrier to confirm eSIM capability if the above steps are not helpful for you.

9. When do I need to verify my identity?

Certain countries require customers to complete a Know Your Customer (KYC) process before activating a new telecommunication service.

eKYC is a paperless KYC authentication process where the identity and address of the subscriber are verified electronically. This means that you will be required to verify your identity by uploading a document.

If an eSIM requires an eKYC process, it will be stated before purchase.

10. When does my eSIM data package expire?

The eSIM data package expiration date depends on the eSIM validity or data consumption.

Your eSIM data package will last for the presented validity period, as long as you do not consume all data before then.

The validity period starts when the eSIM activates. Most eSIMs will activate when the installed eSIM connects to the supported network at the destination.

Depending on the eSIM, it can also activate at the time of the installation, regardless of your location.

You can check this information before purchasing by going to Additional Information> Activation Policy.

11. How can I get an eSIM?

You can get an eSIM online at our website shop.uquid.com or through the Uquid app.

On the Uquid website:

  • Sign up for an Uquid account, or log in if you already have an account.
  • Search for available eSIMs for your desired country or region.
  • Select your preferred data plan.
  • Choose your payment method, agree with the required items, and click on “Checkout”.
12. When do I need my eSIM’s ICCID number?

When you reach out to our support channels and need assistance with your eSIM, our support team will ask you to provide the ICCID Number of the concerned eSIM.

The ICCID Number stands for Integrated Circuit Card ID. It’s a 20 digits number that starts with 89XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX and ends with a random extra number. The ICCID is a globally unique serial number—a one-of-a-kind signature that identifies the eSIM card.

13. When is it safe to remove eSIMs from my device?

You can safely remove eSIMs from your device when:

  • There is no longer an active data package for the eSIM
  • When you buy an eSIM from Uquid, it always comes with a data pack that is ready to be activated. You can see this from your account if there is still an active data package for your eSIM (not yet expired). If this is the case, please do not delete the eSIM from the device.
  • You no longer have a use for it

Some eSIMs from Uquid can only be used once and can’t be topped up. You can remove these eSIMs after using them.

If you have an eSIM that you no longer plan to use, you can safely remove it as well.

Your new eSIM is for the same country/region

When you buy an eSIM from the store, you will receive a new eSIM each time. The new eSIM will always need to be installed. It’s always best to start to install on a clean slate to avoid confusion on which eSIM is in the device.

To remove your eSIMs from the device, navigate to your device’s Mobile/Cellular Settings, tap on the eSIM you want to delete and select “Remove Mobile Data Plan”. Depending on the device, it can also be “Remove eSIM”, “Delete Mobile Plan”, or something similar.

14. How can I save my eSIM instructions for later?

You can install your eSIM either before or after you land. The best time to install your eSIM will depend on your activation policy. Please refer to “When can I install my eSIM?” for more information on your eSIM’s activation policy.

Once you install the eSIM, you will need to set up your eSIM by completing the Access Data Steps (My eSIMs> Details> Install eSIM/Access Data).

In case you leave the set-up for later, you will need to have your Access Data Steps in hand, which can be saved to your mobile device by following the steps below:

Local and Regional eSIMs

  1. Go to “My eSIMs”
  2. Save a Screenshot

*The APN settings may vary depending on the country, which is why it is important to choose the country so you can save the Installation/Access Data steps for the desired destination.

15. How do I install and set up an eSIM on my Android/iOS device?

First of all, you must check the following items to guarantee that you can successfully install and set up your eSIM:

18. Can I install the same eSIM on multiple devices?

No, you cannot install the same eSIM on multiple devices.

Your eSIM can only be installed on one device, and most eSIMs can be installed only once. This means that if you remove the eSIM from your device, it will not be possible to install it again.

19. Can I reinstall an eSIM?

Most eSIMs cannot be reinstalled, which means that if you remove your eSIM you may encounter an error when trying to download it again.

We recommend temporarily disabling the eSIM when you are not using it to save on data usage. However, once activated the eSIM validity will not stop.

20. How can I remove an eSIM from my iOS device?

You can delete the eSIM(s) you will no longer use, or temporarily disable an eSIM, in your device’s settings.

To delete an eSIM:

  1. Go to Settings on your device
  2. Go to Cellular/Mobile
  3. Tap on your eSIM
  4. Select Remove Mobile Data Plan

  1. You may get the option to “Remove eSIM” or “Delete Mobile Plan,” depending on your device.

To temporarily disable an eSIM:

  1. Go to Settings on your device

  3. You should see the option to “Turn on/off this line.” This disables the eSIM temporarily. You can re-enable or reuse this eSIM at a later time.  (Do note that the eSIM validity cannot be paused, so your eSIM will still expire after its validity period).
21. What happens to the unused data after the validity period?

The eSIM data can only be used within the validity period, which means the remaining unused data cannot be used after the validity period.

In case the eSIM is rechargeable, it’s possible to add a new data package by tapping on “TOP UP” on your eSIM to continue to use the same eSIM.

22. Can I receive phone calls on my primary number?

Yes, your primary number should be able to receive calls if your device allows you to have a SIM and eSIM activated at the same time.

If you are using an iPhone, particular models have the Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) technology that allows you to remain connected with both physical your SIM and eSIM simultaneously.

However, the number of eSIMs that you can have active on your device will change according to the device model. With iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13, and iPhone 13 mini, you can use Dual SIM with either two active eSIMs or a nano-SIM and an eSIM.

iPhone 12 models, iPhone 11 models, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR feature Dual SIM with a nano-SIM and an eSIM, but you can only have one eSIM active at a time.

For more information, please contact your device’s manufacturer.

Please also keep in mind that data roaming charges may apply to the call service depending on your carrier provider.

23. Can I access all apps and websites with my eSIM mobile data?

With an eSIM, you can access many apps and websites as long as there are no restrictions on the app or website you wish to use.

Some apps or websites restrict access due to:

  1. Proxy settings
  2. Security Protocols
  3. Location/service provider restrictions
  4. eSIM data requires a routing method that operates through a ‘roaming platform’. For this reason, due to the app or website security settings, they might not be accessible.
24. When can I use the same eSIM?

When you can use the same eSIM:

  • The eSIM has available top-up data package options you can buy.
  • You still have the eSIM installed on your device.
  • You will use the eSIM in the supported country or countries

When you buy an eSIM, you will see if this eSIM has an available top-up package. If you plan on using the same eSIM again, please do not delete the eSIM.

You can leave it installed and simply turn it OFF under Cellular Data Plans while not in use. You can keep on adding a top-up data package to your eSIM as long there’s an available top-up data package.

To know how to top up an eSIM, see How can I top up an eSIM?

Please note that you can only use your eSIM and data packages for the supported country.

When you can’t use the same eSIM:

  • There are no available top-up options.
  • You plan on using your eSIM for a different country than you’ve used before and it’s not supported.

If there are no available top-up options for your eSIM, then it is for one-time use only. You can safely remove the eSIM from your device once the data package is used up or has expired. [Can I remove an eSIM from my device? – Uquid Help Center]

When you want to use your eSIM in another country, please ensure that your eSIM and data packages support the country you are going to. Otherwise, you will not be able to use it.

As a quick reference:

  • Local eSIMs support one country only.
  • Regional and Global eSIMs cover multiple countries.
25. How can I receive SMS and calls while connected with my data-only eSIM?

If your eSIM supports data-only, you can still use another line for voice and SMS.

Please check your eSIM’s Additional Information details to learn your plan type. You can learn how to do it by checking: “Can I make phone calls or send SMS with my eSIM?”.

To use your primary line for voice and text while you enjoy your eSIM for data, you need to enable the primary line and set it up as your Default Voice line.

Data roaming may also need to be enabled depending on the requirement of your home provider. This may incur roaming charges, so we highly encourage you to consult your home provider to learn about the charges before proceeding.

On iOS:

  1. Go to Settings>Cellular

  1. Tap your Main / Primary line

  1. Toggle ON “Turn On This Line”

  1. Go back to Cellular. Then tap “Default Voice Line”

  2. Ensure that you keep your eSIM selected for mobile data as well.

OPTION 2: via Settings

  1. Go to Settings > Connections > SIM card manager

  1. Scroll down until you see the Preferred SIM card section
  2. Tap on Calls.

  1. Select your Main / Primary line

  1. Do the same for SMS
  2. Ensure that you keep your eSIM selected for mobile data.

On Pixel devices:

(Please note that the below steps may vary depending on your Pixel model)

  1. Go to Settings >Network & Internet > SIMS
  2. Select your Main / Primary line
  3. Toggle Use SIM to turn it ON (if it’s not yet enabled, otherwise, go to the next step)

  1. Look for Calls Preference and tap on it.
  2. A window will pop up asking which plan you want to use for calls.
  3. Select your Main / Primary line
  4. Do the same in step 3, this time for SMS Preference.
  5. For Mobile data, ensure that your eSIM is selected for it.

Once you have followed the above steps, you should have your Main / Primary line set for calls or SMS, then your eSIMs for mobile data.

26. Why don’t I see 5G in the status bar on my iPhone?

After confirming that your device* and eSIM support a 5G network, you should be able to connect with a much higher data speed. If you don’t see 5G indicated in your iPhone’s status bar, please follow the steps below:

  1. Ensure that you’re in an area with 5G coverage.
  2. Go to Settings > Cellular/Mobile > TAP the preferred SIM > Cellular/Mobile Data Options. If Voice & Data has 5G On, your device has 5G activated. If 5G is not an option, the eSIM does not support 5G.
  3. If your device has 5G activated, turn on Airplane Mode, then turn it off to reconnect to a 5G network.

If you still don’t have a 5G connection, please contact us on our support channels for further assistance.

*Only iPhone 12 models or later work with the 5G cellular or mobile networks.

*An area with 5G coverage is required to connect to a 5G network. Being too far away may cause speeds to slow down or drop to a 4G or LTE connection.

27. How do I change my eSIM label?

Most phones will allow you to store multiple eSIM profiles and switch between them as needed.

During eSIM installation, your device will automatically label your new eSIM. Afterward, you can go to your device settings and change it.
